Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is located on University Avenue, directly across from the State Capitol and is adjacent to the Frogtown and Mount Airy neighborhoods. The center of the congregation’s life is worship. This worship is conducted with the use of seven different liturgies. Multicultural elements, particularly music, are regularly utilized. Our worship is liturgical. The preached word and the sacrament of Holy Communion are part of every Sunday Worship Service. All people are invited to participate in Holy Communion.

Christ Lutheran Church is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse congregations in the St. Paul-Minneapolis area and in the ELCA. Participants in the congregation’s life are from Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. The mission statement of the congregation says, “We are a diverse people, brought together by the grace of God to share with others what we have received.” All are welcome, with no exceptions.

In addition to worship, Christ Lutheran Church places a priority on an exploration of the Christian faith and the way in which it relates to the world’s life. All issues of life and faith are considered appropriate areas for dialogue. In pursuing this dialogue, we agree to disagree.

Pastoral care is an important dimension of the congregation’s life. Pastoral care is available to all people of the congregation and the community. There is no promise that persons providing this care will be able to resolve problems, but there is the promise that listening will be thorough and that every effort will be made to secure appropriate assistance. For any pastoral care, please call Pastor Gary Dreier at 651-222-3619 ext. 11.

The worship, education and pastoral care dimensions of the congregation’s life are intended to help people live a life consistent with the ways of God as revealed in Jesus the Christ. We believe that part of the call to discipleship includes being an advocate for the vulnerable in the world and for the common good.
